This is my personal blog. Though I sometimes write about my work as Director of Outreach for Global Voices, everything I write on here is my personal opinion only and shouldn’t be taken as any sort of official stance of Global Voices.

Global Voices (and, yes, my salary) is funded by grants from philanthropic foundations and corporate donors. A full list of our financial supporters is here.

I am frequently invited to speak at conferences and to give training workshops about new media. Typically my airfare and accommodation are paid for by the organizers of the events. This was true, for example, of my attendance of Pop!Tech, Ars Electronica, and Campus Party. I make a conscious effort to not let any sponsored invitation to an event influence my coverage of it.

In December 2008 I was invited by the International Marketing Council of South Africa to participate in a “Bloggers Roadshow” of South Africa, which highlighted the country’s technological innovation and touristic offerings. My initial thoughts on participating in the roadshow are here.
