Bektour Iskender in America

I’m in Istanbul this week with my new partner in crime from Kyrgyzstan, Bektour Iskender. Together we’re holding a three-day workshop on digital media production and distribution for affiliates from Internews’ Eurasia program. Bektour was recently in the United States where he took some excellent photos of a protest rally in Los Angeles, New York at dawn, and Old Town in San Diego. While he was in Boston he met up with Ethan, who published a nice post about Bektour’s work.

We shot this video a few hours ago as an example of how quick and easy it is to make a decent video with a $100 camera and free editing software. I’ll try to record another video of Bektour later in the week in order to learn more about Kyrgyzstan.

    I met Bektour through working with the European Journalism Centre, and saw David speak at the Global Voices Forum in Budapest.

    It’s great to see both continue such interesting work and improving media literacy! Please let me know if there is something I could ever contribute; I am working as an editor for the EJC from the US at the moment.

    I used iMovie to edit this video. In the workshop we used iMovie, Windows Movie Maker, and FlipShare.
