This is a fantastic talk. I especially enjoyed the Paul Otlet video. But what gives with the "flu tracking" system? Sure it's neat, but aren't people who Google "symptoms of flu" going to possibly distort information? I can see myriad hypochondriacs influencing assessments of whether there's a pandemic or not.

Lastly, I love that the fasting growing demographic on Facebook is 55-65 females. This now explains why my brother's mother-in-law, my fiancee's mother and my friend's mom tried to add me as friends in the last few months.

Great talk. Maybe next time you come to Davis you can give it at UCD. I imagine people would love to have you.

It's funny, web services are almost a step backwards in computing. Not backwards bad. Substitute terminal for browser and mainframe for cloud, and you are back in the 70's.

I think that a balance between cloud and personal computing is optimal - Decentralize vital data, centralize intensive computation. Use mobile devices as an infinite network of sensors. These three points formed the basis of a statistics class I took last year.

It would be interesting to hear about the science (statistics, machine learning, computer science) that goes on that allows us to move our computing off of our computers and into the cloud and how these computers "know" what we want to do. But then I'm a scientist, so I always think that the science is interesting.

Now I'm off to participate in encoding the NY Times by filling out your re-Captcha.

a yogi would say that such a network as you envision already exists, that collective consciousness is the basis of all being, and all beings ..

technology is just waking us up to what already is ..
