[...] Two questions echoed in my head during the three days it took me to read Cormac McCarthy’s The Road (at 287 pages, it is an extremely quick read; in part because it is so difficult to put down). First, is there a difference between empathy and morality? Second, where does morality come from? And why has it expanded so successfully over the past few thousand years? [...]

I've been reading a couple of entries until now that is about to "amanecer" and this entry made me comment. I think it is the perfect example of the sense of perception and reflection that you have. I enjoyed your blog.

Jillian,

Thanks, and I'm looking forward to that post. :)

Miquel,

You seem fairly confident that Miquel III will escape the mobile phone radiation. Is there a Tenderloin district bunker those of us on the East Bay don't know about?

I think that it's our grandchildren generation that will be the most interesting. Given that we're overloaded on information, I can only imagine what our children will think of it. A vacation for the next generation might just be sitting in a sound proof room with no data signal. There will probably be some backlash against all that we've documented with a bit lost here and there (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_2038_Problem" rel="nofollow">2038</a> is going to be a bad, bad year) and it won't be until our grandchildren come in to their own that what we're writing now will actually be interesting as they'll most likely be able to accurately sift through our firehose of textual blather to find what's interesting. I can just picture Miquel III looking at this comment in 2068 and saying, "Pfft. He was freakin' worried about 2038? How could they be worried about that when mobile phone radiation wiped out a third of the planet in 2012?"
