One basic law of human behavior I've noticed over and over in my life is that it is remarkably difficult to care about something that has not been experienced first hand. Perhaps the network public sphere, with its low cost and multidirectional nodes of communication, can help change that. At the very least, it can help connect people who already care about a far away place stay connected to it.</description>

love this new feature of your blog - it is a good way for me to filter thru the cornucopia of Global/Rising Voices and be able to sample some jewels.  The post from Madagascar is great.

Getting this global dialogue going is both directions is the biggest challenge - Global Voices is among the best of getting in started in one direction - once language is removed as a barrier, it can start in both directions.
