I can relate a lot, although I think my schedule is somewhat less intense. One thing that has helped a lot in terms of the "mental wall" has been renting a separate office for the two of us (up until then a lot of work was being done at home). Now I'm up till 12 many nights, but at least when I get home it's a different place, different mode, etc.

Guess that's a bit more difficult to do when you bring your office with you wherever you go....

Britt,

That's what started the whole post silly! (second paragraph)

Jon O,

I agree - mental walls are important. A traveling office just means you have to be more cognizant about it.

One of the most frustrating scenarios leading my team here at the office : 2 people, same job, same responsibilities, very similar results. But - one stresses like mad 24/7 while the other breezes through with hardly a care. Why? And what to do about it?

For me personally, a little stress while working is a good thing. I worked cafes and kitchens & still miss that buzz of doing something really well at a crazy rate of speed. It's when it follows me home that's the problem - or gets into my dreams. For that, it's meditation. Mental walls. One of the best things I've ever learned.

And of course, we all push it too far sometimes... Couple years ago, I'm at my doc's office with tendonitis in my thumb :

Doc : Do you work on a keyboard 8 hours a day?

Me : Nope!

Doc : Oh, good...

Me : No, I mean, I'm on a keyboard *way* more than 8 hours a day!

Enjoy your days off mano,
