I am really impressed with your work and the pace of it.
Medea's contribution to the discussion brings a sad fact to an issue that I think has another edge.
Yes, a blog is not going to help you with your crops, but will will have an impact on the community. Bringing ICT's skills and self expression to a community opens new doors to self-reflection and hunger for new knowledge. It will not have a direct economic impact in the short run but it will inspire people to think about their sorroundings.

Hi Mark,

I hope we see each other again soon.

Jules,

It is sad that what you write is so true. I have a feeling that it will breed a lot of resentment amongst young people in the so-called developing world who feel that they need 'international' (ie. US or European) approval whenever they want to make positive change in their own communities.

"Rising Voices microgrants should always be distributed based on how they will benefit the recipients, not the Western news junkie who is constantly checking his/her RSS feeds."

So true! However, ironic though it may seem, it is through international attention to a project that it can get attention on a local level, par ti cu lar ly when requesting local funds. It seems that if it doesn´t have the "international seal of approval" it doesn´t get much headspace at home. I don´t think it´s an either/or situation, but rather a chance to have projects that consider both and make informed decisions based on the local situation.
