I'm prejudiced to the American Office. I keep hearing it's good. But British people just talk so funny and mister toad (David Brent) is just the most arrogant, self-deprecating bastard i've ever seen. Ricky Gervais podcasts, get it!

Thanks for the comments - it sounds like watching DVDs of The Office while eating donuts on a snowy day might be the cure-all for everything.

LOL - Joel. You're so right, Joel. I too have wondered why there is no love for Hilary Clinton. I'll just have to wait for HP to comment. My views will be the complete opposite of his opinion. :)

lol I like Joel's comment heh.
Great post oso.
I think the reason so many have fascination with celebrity is they are out of touch with the people actually in their lives and hardly anyone seems to want to do the work needed to grow those healthy relationships - much easier to get it downloaded in 30 mins. I think it also feeds the "omg they are so messed up, my life isn't so bad, money can't buy you happiness, yada yada".

For a guy who runs/does healthy-stuff all the time, you get sick kinda often.

Just smoke, watch TV and eat more donuts; it'll be good for you.

After Jim returns from the Stamford office to the Scranton office:

Kelly: Jim!
Jim: Kelly…
Kelly: Oh my God I have so much to tell you.
Jim: Really?
Kelly: Yes. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, they had a baby named Suri. And then Bradd Pitt and Angelina Jolie they had a baby too and named it Shilo. And both babies are a-mazing!!!
Jim: Great. What’s new with you?
Kelly: I just told you.

Oso, if you watch any tv you should watch "the Office". You'd dig it: great characters and full of absurdity.

Xolo,

Actually I drive a testosterone-fueled 4x4 SUV. You know, just to step outside of my archetype. ;)

I'd like to agree that Bush is a bumbling fool, but my time in middle America has me convinced that he's an average joe who happens to be at the helm of the country. Who knows, maybe that's as egalitarian as it gets.

When will you teach a class in California so I can sneak in?

Flu = fever, cold=no fever (or very small one)

Your drive reminds me of one I made from Naples to Bergamo, Italy. Cold and feeling the grip of some awful illness coming on. As we got into the Po Valley we hit a combination of traffic and fog, so we crawled the last leg of the trip.

My first thought on the bumper sticker in SF was that they probably didn't like Hillary because she was too conservative. You just assumed from the guys appearance that he was a Republican. Tsk-tsk. Shame on us both, making such assumptions. By the way, how did you know that he had a potbelly if he was in a truck and you were in a car?

GWBush, is not just caricature figure, he is a caricature himself. He may represent the Conservative wing of the Republican party in some eyes, but he is also a bumbling fool.

Royalty used to embody the state. Hence "God Save the Queen" = God save England/Britain. With the advent of nationalism, royalty has become a way for the "commoner" to live in luxury vicariously. Diana's popularity stemmed from her emergence in her "fairy tale" wedding to her alienation to her redemption, and finanlly, to her tragic death.

Freaky story: A media professor at my college was planning a course on icons in the media. He was planning on using case studies: Diana and Mother Teresa. All three died within the span of a week (the professor was very young and it was unexpected).
