I am both surprised and delighted that the internet has somehow managed to remain a mostly text-based medium. I hear people complain that children don’t read like they used to, but honestly, because of the internet, kids are reading more than they ever did before. Still, slowly I am beginning to appreciate videos over the internet. Or IPTV as I heard someone call it.
I’ve been using DTV the past few nights to watch Democracy Now! and whatever makes it onto http://del.icio.us/popular/system:media:video. I also really enjoy the little clips that Davo puts on his blog. So here are two clips of outdoor public aerobics in Bangkok from some afternoon when Bobbo, Abo, and I went for a hungover expedition across town last year. In both clips you can just barely make out Bobbo, thumbs tucked cooly under his backpack straps.
i know you can’t mean to equate the internet with a book. i love blogs, read a couple hundred blog entries a day…but it is nothing like a good book.
man that was one of the funniest experiences of my life. remember we were chilling by that lake/pond and wondering where the techno music was coming from, then all of a sudden we come upon this horde of thais being led on an aerobics adventure by a woman standing on a stage by the front gate of lumphini park. good times, good times.
now if we could only get that trend started with americans, then we might not have an obesity epidemic.

I don’t equate the Inkernet with a book. You’re absolutely right. Though the lines are beginning to blur. Tomorrow, on a long flight, I’ll be reading this, an online version of a book about blogging.

The most amazing thing for me was coming around that turn and seeing literally hundres of people – from all walks of life – following the every motion of one tiny little lady in lycra. You got some cool shots of that park – you should put them up on Flickr.

It would be amazing. Can’t you picture it. You’re walking around Millenium Park and all of a suddent you come across a throng of hundreds and hundreds of Chi-towners doing group aerobics together. Unfortunately, I think Americans are far too individualistic to ever let something like that coalesce.
I wonder if it’s the Thai government that pays the aerobic instructors.
Kewl!!! I am so glad to see video on this page. The fact is that a blog can be such a quotidian medium and like home movies they can be a recorded progress of one’s adventures. Trips are such a good opportunity to mesh mediums and share experiences. I can’t wait till I videoblog my days in Japan and Mexico these coming holidays. I wonder how I’m going to handle low bandwidth connections in Mexico
