I have long ceased enjoying reading the daily news for educational value, but because it has become habit over the years I have designed other ways of entertaining myself when flipping through the headlines. One game I like to play is Find the Hypocrite. It’s fun. We’ll start with an easy one: here.
Why do we here at OMA love Christian Conservatives? Because they simultaneuously advocate the aggressive waging of war to spread psuedo-”Democracy” while preaching the assasination of democratically elected leaders — both against the clear teachings of their own professed religion. Awesome!
Oh god.
Last thing we want to do is give this guy any more attention. It’s the only thing he wants. Like my boy Daniel (one of the most anti-Chavez people you could find) says:

I’m ok with CC’s in general, but really, Pat Robertson is a nobody in the GOP. I think this is greatly overblown. Every Republican I know, including myself, whether CC or not, considers him to be a great big nobody. He may have certain followers here and there, but really, he has a very limited amount of power in the GOP. To say that the majority party represents his views is even less fair than saying that the majority of Democrats represents what Al Sharpton runs and around and babbles about all day.
Hey, you and I know that Robertson is as crazy as they come, but the 1.5 billion people around the world who listen to his vitriol and subscribe to his nonsense apparently do not. He should be exposed constantly for the hateful, un-Christian person he is, and then possibly prosecuted for fraud, embezlement and advocating the murder of a national leader. And what exactly is your “boy” Daniel doing? Seems to me that it is using a different tack to do the exact same thing I did. Namely noting that the guy has no credibility and should be given none, and yet his words show up on the front of google news and he has millions of followers.
HP - yeah, I’m not saying he has any sway in the GOP. Any rational person (and the GOP has a few) would stay as far away as possible from this hateful man. Nonetheless, he speaks for a large number of people who claim to be Conservative Republicans and who vote as such. Besides, I wouldn’t be all that surprised if in the dark, smokey dens where Republicans secretly meet they say to eachother “I agree with the bastard, I’m just not stupid enough to say so in public.” Don’t tell me his sentiments aren’t shared by some in the mainstream of the party.

I don’t see the 700 Club on the drop down list, but it’ll accept your comment (ie. “take Robertson off the air”) without choosing another show.

Geez, OSO, if we all played that game, we don’t have to look in the papers…….all we have to do……..(every single one of us), is just look in the mirror.
And, I for one disagree with HP. Pat is ’somebody’ with a lot of Republican voters — Republican voters that are part of the GOP……….seriously, he’s a major player when it comes to the voting realm. On another note, what he said was probably inappropriate, however, here is a question that I have:

I don’t watch the 700 club, in fact, I hardly watch television, I flipped on the tube to his station shortly after 9-11 to see what he was talking about, but that was it and I don’t recall him being hateful when I watched him during that time-frame.
So, Abogado, let’s hear it from you……….map it out for us and please list all of the constant hateful un-Christian things he has said.
I will be waiting and in fact I have ’subscribed to comments’ because I am interested in finding out what hateful things he has said.

I have not the time nor ganas to look into Robertson’s archive o’ hate (I actually prefer ’stupidity’), but two things I’d come across over the past week.

He apologized after first lying, which according to my two new catholic guides given by our friend HP, isn’t the Christian thing to do at all.
Cape Canaveral, not Venezuela is a launching pad. While there have been allegations of FARC rebels from Colombia temporarily hiding out on the Venezuelan side of the border, I’ve never read anything suggesting terrorist training camps or other such nonsense from Venezuela. If you have evidence from a source other than the 700 Club suggesting otherwise, I’d love to see it.

You may not have the time and the ganas to look up Pat’s hate speeches but the author of this post may find it in his heart to look up a few for me. Perhaps he doesn’t have time and ganas tambien, pero who does have the time anymore?
I noticed you linked us to the gay/hurricane site, however, many who believe in the Bible, albeit the Jews, Muslims and Christians…..well many do believe in this ol’ story. You see, Oso, I think it is reasonable to believe why many fear God and it is reasonable to believe that if His Creation does not do what He instructs………..well, maybe some come to the conclusion that when destruction happens, well it is okay to wonder if God is punishing.
For example:
If you have a child that continues to disobey you, you are left with disciplining that child to ensure that he understands consequences to undesired behavior, que no?
Whether or not Pat apologized after this or that, means nothing…….it is the end result that ultimately matters. He apologized. It was the Christian thing to do. Pat doesn’t walk on water, nor can he turn my water into wine, he is human and I am glad to read that he did apologize.

It takes no time at all to find hateful things that have come out of Robertson’s mouth. Just a cursory glance at an article on the front of google news at the moment provides a few of the more egregious examples:
This is besides his daily hate speech about gays, which you seem to support. It’s amazing to me that he apologized for what he said since he clearly believes it. It’s also pretty clear that those in the Bush administration believe largely the same thing:
Yes, I read the paper for educational value. No, I don’t actually play a game called “Find the Hypocrite”. And yes, to a certain extent, we are all guilty of hypocricy. My point is that Robertson is being more than a hypocrite, he is being a manipulative liar, trying to capitalize on people’s prejudices in the name of God. It’s hateful, blasphemous, and in my opinion criminal, but I would settle for the man retiring and dying in obscurity along with the other preachers of hate.

That sounds an awful lot like what he said in the first place and not very much like an apology. At any rate, I don’t care whether he is sorry for advocating the assassination of a democratically elected leader; I don’t see what difference it makes. Actually, I think he should have stood by his comment because, as I said above and as he made clear in his “clarification,” he clearly believes it the appropriate thing to do. Targeting the leader of a nation with which we are at war is generally accepted as being within the modern parameters of international warfare law. Who would argue with dropping bombs on Hitler’s house or Sadam’s palace? Clearly there is a difference here; one that he fails to notice and that belies the feelings of many of those on the right (IMO). They are waging a constant, undefined war against evil that they wish to have consume our country. A crusade, if you will. This war, beginning with the relatively defined, limited and justified goal of removing the Taliban and catching Bin Laden, has been twisted and manipulated because of political, cultural and arguably religious motivations. That is why these comments are not innocuous — they are symbollic of the beliefs shared by a small, but influential group of people and they should be exposed for what they are: self-righteous, inflamatory, imperialistic ideas.

Geez, Abogado! I went to the Japan article you provided and I see no credible source referring to his alleged quote. Dude, come on now……give me something more credible in regards to what Japan Times has written about him. Seriously.
So who’s the bigger dummy?
Pat making his comment towards Chavez and then apologizing for it…..or is Chavez the bigger dummy for thinking that our prez. is out to get him?
It sounds like a bunch of dummies to me, and it seems like the main problem you have with Pat is his stance on gays. That’s my take anyway.

I think the CC’s do have lots of pull and he is in that chain of influence. He has 63 million viewers and is no light weight. The Democrats under estimated the power of the CC last election and really is to blame for pumping them up. Anyway he is a private citizen with a show and has a right to an opinion.
If we had done this to Saddam we would have saved many lives and he would be dead. No big loss. Chavez is in bed with Castro and Castro is a murderous dictator who keeps his people in poverty. Give it some time he will step on it and the world will see Chavez for what he is. I am certain Robertson said what he did out of American interest, but I am also concerned with the killing and oppression of the opposition party there in Venezuela.
The people that come out in protest are not paid American protesters. They are real people that don’t want another Castro telling them what is pest for them.
There are those that like his brand of socialism because they are getting the peace of the pie. When the pie starts to get low you get un invited from the table. Then you start strong arming the ones that got you there and then you are the one at the top for good. Castro is teaching him well.
Several of Castro’s Generals that helped him over through Batista were executed after they wanted to have election. This guy is no better. Not as in your face as Castro but no better.
Jesus Christ was not prohibiting self defense by Christians in a manner permitted by law. He also said, “When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are in peace.” (Luke 11:21 RSV). No “turn the other cheek” for burglars or looters, and by extension, every other sort of common criminal.
Maybe in Pat Robertson’s mind this hit on Chavez is protecting his home. In a broader sense you know.
What if Christian leaders issued Fatwas like the Muslims leaders that call for killing of Jews and Americans? There is no out cry for that. I don’t see the Muslim leaders making it clear that they are pro American.
