This post is dedicated to Raman who I haven’t talked to in far too long and is soon leaving me to go to India where my boy Revaz also is. He writes me emails like what follows all the time and I write him back to tell him his spelling his horrendous and he writes me back telling me to shut the fuck up and stop whining because I understand exactly what the hell he’s saying don’t I?

thats funny because i had been planning on posting about this for a while now, but never got around to it, surprise surprise. and now i would like to say two words i never hoped to say in my life: raman’s right. i see all the time, especially out here in nyc with the immigrants who cant speaka the english so good. i used to always think to myself “idiots. learn to spell.” but then i realized what difference does it make? its an elitist who demands that all things be spelled in the king’s english. who cares as long as the idea is expressed, which it almost always is. We (college educated) have been taught the importance of good grammar and spelling but does it really matter? no. the only thing it serves is to look down your noses at people who can’t spell as well as you do. it’s andy rooney pointing out that he has “fifty books on the english language” when correcting ali g. you know what i say? keep up the improper spelling and grammar, we hear you loud and clear. languages develop and evolve through the masses, not the elites (even though they write the book). sure we all use street talk now, but were it twenty years ago we’d be laughing at anyone who said “yo” or “lates” to us. and so, to end this comment that was originally intended to a post, i quote the master: “does yous think the medjya has changed?”
