Wired CD – Free

con1I just posted a recent link about the new Wired CD released under Creative Commons’ new sampling licenses. I want to make it clear though that you don’t have to buy an issue of Wired to get the tracks. Each track (which is either licensed as Sampling Plus or Noncommercial Sampling Plus) is available for free download at the Creative Commons website.

Some of my favorite groups and musicians are on this CD including Gilberto Gil, Dan The Automator, and Thievery Corporation.

This new CD represents years of dialogue between Lawrence Lessig and the Creative Commons/Electric Frontier Foundation groups with the RIAA and music industry.

There was also a concert which hopefully showed the new paradigm for musicians – distribute at least some songs for free and then earn your money by touring and performing your music live to audiences.

con2You can find quotes about why new licenses needed to be created for musicians.

Finally, GarageBand.com is a great resource for independent non-RIAA licenses music. Most podcasters typically play at least one or two songs off of GarageBand during their shows.

Finally again, the conservatives of course had to come up with a website to counter Sorry Everybody so please head on over to We’re Not Sorry and have youself a laugh. There are 14 pages of submitted photos – I just grabbed two off the front page. I’m still not sure which site is more sorry.

An interesting comment from John Campbell, a Republican State Congressman, whose e-mails I subscribe to as he is a family friend:

” London’s Daily Mirror proclaimed in a headline after the election
“How can 59 million people be that stupid.” The Michael Moore, George
Soros, Alec Baldwin crew love this stuff because it plays into their belief
that Bush is stupid and so are people who live in red states or vote for
him. So, the left is now setting up websites and blogs all on the stupidity
of supporting Bush and any Republican. If I wanted somebody to vote for me,
calling them stupid is unlikely to achieve my goal. This is more evidence
of the hubris of the liberal elite as they seem to believe that they must
show us all how stupid we are so we will recognize how smart they are and
allow them to make all of our decisions. But all it does is galvanize
support of the center-right and make red states redder.”

A very good point, I think. This IS exactly what conservatives hate about liberals, their belief that they are smarter than everyone else and because of that deserve to make all their decisions. That’s why I always defend those in red states, because they are citizens too and deserve to have a voice as well.
