More Shameless Self-Promotion from…

Sorry I’ve been letting all you down lately….well, at least the two of you who read my blog (hi mom!). Haven’t felt much like writing, that and I dont have much to write about. Just wanted to remind any of you who still read my posts that the best-band-you’ve-never-heard Via Violenta (VV) are playing tonite (Thursday) at Don Hills in Manhattan. Its our biggest gig ever and we expect to draw at least 3 people (band members included). For more info check out Don Hills website.
In other news, it turns out the Republicans are holding their National Convention here in NYC. Someone should organize some sort of protest against those bloodsuckers, but I doubt anyone else has thought of that. I am so sick of political apathy in this country.

I also would like to welcome Abogado to the blog. As my new replacement….I mean, “fellow contributor”, let me just be the first one to say “I call top bunk!” Hope law school treats you well, can’t wait to hear about it?

As I am well aware, there has been a lot of murmuring in the Moreno camp over this new addition. Sure no one likes change, but we must all learn to etcetera.

And now for what you’ve all been waiting for: gossip!
Last night Rajeev and I went to the vincent Gallo show where he played music from his album when with Sean Lennon and Lucas Haas’ brother Nick. Sadly, both John Lennon and Lucas Haas failed to make an appearance. The show was in honor of the opening of Brown Bunny this weekend. For those of you who don’t know, this movie was the worst received film in the history of the Cannes film festival. It received a 15-minute standing hiss at the fest and even Gene Siskel gave it a bad review…and he’s dead! The complicated plot, involving the CIA cover-up of an undercover agent’s death in Brussels and the subsequent political chase that ensues, culminates with a 10 minute graphic blowjob. Gallo insists the film is not as self-indulgent as the critics claim, yet its hard to believe him when the tagline for the movie is “come for the car-chase, stay for the coming.” Phew, that was awful. Anyway, in short, if you live in the three cultural centers of the country (New York, Los Angeles, and….Irvine????) go see Brown Bunny this weekend. I think it comes out nationwide later, I dunno. Who am I, the Brown Bunny info guy?!

Oh and for those of you with short attention spans or who generally skip the first paragraph of my posts, Via Violenta (VV) is playing tonite at Don Hills @ 7:45. We will be celebrating my last day alive…I mean my last day of being 23. Fix up, look sharp.

what many people, moreno included, fail to mention is that at the actual opening screening at cannes, the brown bunny received a ten minute standing ovation. it was only at the press screening (not the official premiere) where it was treated badly. the press began booing and hissing during the opening credits which says more about their opinions of the director than any sort of insightful or intelligent comment they may have had on the work, which i’m sure was none. i’m just sayin.

yes i say its best to withhold judgment until seeing something for yourself or at least hearing someone out until the end. I was upset when the boos and hisses started early during my eulogy for grandma. Apparently it’s faux pas to try and reclaim debts a dead woman can’t pay and a grieving widower refuses to talk to you about.
But that post was hilarious moreno.
I hope your show went well and you have a good birthday.

Earlier this month, a blurred image from the scene in question, branded with a lurid (and spurious) XXX rating, loomed in a billboard above Los Angeles’s Sunset Boulevard, causing a teapot media tempest during an otherwise slow movie-news month. The sign was taken down after several days, but its provocation lingers, principally because a budget-conscious movie like “The Brown Bunny” needs manufactured controversy as much as the entertainment media does.
