Photo Required

Laura’s gonna hate me for putting this photo (mug shot) up on here, but I’ve got a little beef with the employment process in Mexico. Whenever I need a laugh while in Mexico it’s straight to either the personals or help wanted sections of the paper. You’ve never seen such comedy. I wish I had written down a few verbatim.

But seriously, there’ll be some job vacancy announcement like, “Looking for a personal assistant. Females from 18 to 22 only need apply. At least “C” cup. Must be proficient in massages. Send resume with attached photo to …”

No joke. You think I’m exaggerating and I am, but barely. And practically every single job requires that you send a photo with your resume. Which is why Laura had to get dozens of these little black and white mug shots printed out.

If any company demanded that I attached a photo to my resume, rest assured that they’d be in store for much more than my freckely face.

Korean companies almost always require a photo in your job application, _especially_ women.

The massage thing is the only exageration…I’ve seen the rest. They always say things too like “Must be single”, “Must not have children”, “Must have a good smile and walk”. What always bugs the shit out of me is the American compaines who advertise like this—and they do, right now I can only think of two whom I’ve seen advertise this way DHL and UPS. I bet you in the US the pride themselves as equal opportunity employers–among C cups.

Actually, the massage thing wasn’t an exaggeration at all. I really saw a job posting that said that.
