I’m about to hop on the bus to work, but two quick things. First, please read Naomi Klein’s Guardian article in the Recent Links section. Second, I’m bringing back the mp3 of the week thing. Moreno will put one up one week and I’ll put one up the next. This one’s Moreno’s: Maria in Motion by Son Ambulance.
Download it here.
Word.
Update: Something just occurred to me. I happen to really like this song … this Maria in Motion track which is an incredibly sexy name for a song by the way. But if you don’t like it … please do me a favor and leave a comment saying so. This would make me feel oh so good, ’cause let me tell you something about this Moreno guy. He’s a god damn musical elitist.
Oso So, Moreno, I just got the new album of this amazing band, you’re gonna love it.
Moreno Oh yeah, I got that last week. It’s alright I guess … I couldn’t really get through it all.
Oso (voice quivering) Oh, ok, um … so I got this other CD - this amazing band - they’re local, no one really knows about them. Incredible though, they’re kinda like a mix of …
Moreno You mean “so and so?” I heard them a few months ago. Yeah, they’re alright. Rip off a lot of Bowie though huh?
So you see, poor Osito is just never quite good enough for Moreno and his all-superior taste in music. So if you think this song is shit, let him know.

Homer: Then we figured out we could park them in front of the TV. That’s how I was raised, and I turned out TV.
So, there is this great new indie joke. Have you heard the new indie joke, Moreno? No? Yeah, of course you havent.
(that’s the joke. it is so lame i’ll have to explain it to those of you who didn’t get it. you see indie hipster rockers are always talking about some great new band they heard, too cool for you to have heard of, same thing with this joke…eh)
that was awful. let me just say something:
first, i aint no hipster….YET!!
second, there are so many bands out there, many of them great, that yes some people who love music are constantly talking about. people hear of great new bands every other day, and just because youre not as on top of it as others, don’t think that people are acting snobby when theyre asking you if youve heard of some obscure band.
third, ive heard many hipsters name-drop bands to earn hipster points. conversations like these:
Hipster 1:”have you heard the band Moco?”
Hipster 2: “no, I havent.”
Hipster 1: “You havent?!?!? oh theyre so good,
Hipster 2: ” Have you heard of Twilight Singers?”
Hipster 1: “no.”
Hipster 2: “You haven’t?!?!? oh they’re so good.”
and it continues like this. I guess the only thing to say to sum it all up is, “Maria, Maria, Maria”
Of course we all know that the first rule of being a hipster is not admitting that you are a hipster. Check this out for 6 more clues that Moreno is in fact a hipster.
Are you worried that you too might be a hipster? Take this quiz and find out.
according to this, you’re both idiots.
gee thanks.
alright, here’s the deal moreno, you ARE a hipster. not because you felt the need to explain to me that there are in fact good bands that no one has heard of, but (as el oso pointed out) because you deny being a hipster.
I am about to pull the ultimate hipster shiznat.
I was the GM for a college radio station, and dated three different (college) hip-hop directors (one from a different college radio station).
I lived in a punk house, and the whole time, I lived there I never bathed.
I went 115 days in a row of seeing at least two indie bands a night.
soo boya, i know you are a hipster, ’cause a girl knows when she sees familia.
i think rajeev has it summed up pretty accurately, as usual.
you’re welcome…
Is there really a band named moco? You know that means booger in Spanish right?
