Before leaving home I wrote a freelance article about blogging in San Diego. I put a lot of time into the article – reading just about every single blog listed on SD Bloggers and interviewing a few local bloggers in person (including a very helpful Joe Crawford) and many more by email. Then I submitted it to Fahrenheit Magazine, a local SD indie publication.

That was probably my biggest mistake. I wanted the article to go into Fahrenheit because I believed in it – a startup publication produced by young, motivated people trying to foster a counter culture in conservative San Diego. Unfortunately, I never heard anything back. Not even a rejection.

I should have then sent it to The Reader or City Beat but instead I just became despondent and then distracted with getting ready for this trip.

The week before my flight to Bangkok I picked up The Reader and saw that its cover story was dedicated to local SD blogger Barbarella. Finally, some print media attention to the local blog scene, I thought, maybe Fahrenheit will be motivated to publish the article now. But still … nothing.

And now, in this week’s Reader which just came out today, another SD blogger, Brianstorms, will be featured as their cover story. Not only that, but he was paid $2000 for a month’s worth of blogging!.

I am very happy for Brian. Looking over his blog, he seems like the perfect candidate to dedicate (another!) SD Reader cover story too. At the same time though, I can’t help but feel a twinge of regret that I wasn’t more aggresive with my own article which by now seems outdated.

Anyway, congratulations Brian – great writing. And, if anyone back home picks up this week’s SD Reader, let me know how it turned out.

Nosotros nos salvamos de la muerte. ¿Por qué? Todas las noches nos salvamos. Quedamos juntos, en nuestros brazos, y yo empiezo a crecer como el día.

Algo he de andar buscando en ti, algo mío que tú eres y que no has de darme nunca.

¿Por qué nos separaron? Me haces falta para andar, para ver, como un tercer ojo, como otro pie que sólo yo sé que tuve.
