Look-Look: a critique

h1 Posted 4 years, 5 months ago mid-morning by oso

First of all, congrats to oso reader Michael Benton who has just published his first column for the Ezine, In The Fray. It’s an interesting and articulate look at media’s influence on identity, culture, ethnicity, and sub-culture and how the media always manages to incorporate (and define) sub-cultures that came into being as a resistance [...]

Two quick links

h1 Posted 4 years, 5 months ago in the early afternoon by oso

Two update links. First here is another local perspective of Huntington’s essay. And second, Thivai pointed out another story about Robert ParkeHarrison’s photography which can be found here. Enjoy … I’m off to work.
Satish is playing tonight from 7:30 to 10:30. Definitely worth checking out - he’s one of my favorite SD musicians and science [...]

Elefant Show

h1 Posted 4 years, 5 months ago in the early afternoon by oso

So, the Elefant show was off the hook last night. They’ve only got one album out (see down on the bottom of the side bar) so we all pretty much knew what to expect, but they still put on a great show.
Unfortunately we got there right after Roots of Orchis finished playing so I wasn’t [...]

A look back at “El Mexterminator” and “Cyber Vato”

h1 Posted 4 years, 6 months ago mid-morning by oso

Back on March 4th I recommended an article on Thivai’s Blog not knowing that Thivai wrote the piece himself. The original article can be found here.
Here are some excerpts and my thoughts:
“All that changed once we entered the doors of the theater … The first thing we were presented with was a sign that stated: [...]

como las olas

h1 Posted 4 years, 6 months ago mid-afternoon by oso

So much to say, so many thoughts swirling around my head, people to thank, notes to mention, articles to site, to comment on. I could write for hours. I’ve also been neglecting some serious responsibilities and loved ones so I’m forcing myself to take it slow, let things take shape like the waves I saw [...]

Quien es tu Papa?

It worked! Still a lot of tweaking to do, but please leave comments about what you think about how the blog looks now and any of its new functions. This is how I feel:

redo

h1 Posted 4 years, 6 months ago around lunchtime by oso

About to completely redo everything about the blog. Format and style will be back to normal (hopefully a little improved) by tomorrow.

I’ll be damned

I woulda never guessed - “A Blog of Information for Writers Living in Orange County, California.” Could this be culture in the O.C.?

Site of the week

h1 Posted 4 years, 6 months ago late at night by oso

Found this via the drudge report. The page is called “Today’s Front Pages” and is just that - over 300 front pages from major newspapers in 40 countries updated every day. I could only understand the English and Spanish papers, but just checking them all out, checking out the pictures and formatting is something I’m [...]

Third day of summer

h1 Posted 4 years, 6 months ago in the early evening by oso

Far too beautiful of a day. Laura and I took Crystal to school at 7, I dropped Laura off at school at 8 and then met up with Revaz at Urban Grind, rappin about politics, friends, ladies, and the upcoming elefant show.
11 a.m. left the eerie literary quietude and darkness of urban grind. The sun [...]
