Heartbreaking

Reuters quoted a Spanish official as saying after the Madrid train bombings: “The hardest thing [for the rescue workers] was hearing mobile phones ringing in the pockets of the bodies. They couldn’t get that out of their heads.”

The Unbearable Lightness of Being

It always amazes me how few people have Milan Kundera, that he has not won the Pullitzer or Nobel prize, hardly any literary prizes at all really. “But I’d really like to read something of his,” she said with this flirtatious smile of hers where one eye is a little more open than the other. That smile kills me … today just like it did that day. And ever since I had been looking for a Spanish language version of Immortality.

The Unbearable Mess in the Kitcshen:

h1 Posted 4 years, 3 months ago at around evening time by oso

Disaster struck our house this morning. More specifically our kitchen. I was in bed reading, Laura had just gotten back from class and all of a sudden it sounded like the world was caving in on itself. There was the sound of broken class, but it was more than that. I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately. Strange to realize that three months have already passed since I first got the idea to start an online journal of my thoughts … a blog. I don’t remember where the idea even came from or how I ended up using Wordpress’ software, but I have to [...]

Vollmann’s Anatomy of Violence

h1 Posted 4 years, 3 months ago mid-afternoon by oso

Those of you who are McSweeney’s readers are well aware of William Vollmann and his quirky writing style. He’s the type of guy that you meet at a rundown coffee house and is blabbering away about the conspiracy theory of the month while you try to hide behind your magazine or text book.

The Future of Ideas

Woojay says that Lawrence Lessig is offering free copies of his book, The Future of Ideas to anyone willing to donate to Creative Commons (which this site is licensed under). I read half the book for a class last year and plan to finish it sometime in the upcoming year. It’s a good and fascinating [...]

Amy, AKA “Chupas” just gave me the mix of the millenium. Mostly bands I’ve never heard of before, but all good songs. Here’s the tracklist:
